The Face-Saver
Let them change their mind without losing their pride.
What it is
People rarely change their minds if it means looking foolish. Give them a way to switch that keeps their pride intact, and they’re far more likely to move.
Spot it
Someone offers you an easy excuse to change your mind, right when you’re losing an argument. Sometimes that’s kindness. Sometimes they’re nudging you toward their way.
Counter it
Take the face-saver if you were wrong. If you weren’t, don’t. Stand by your position calmly.
