The Fog
Agree with the grain of truth and the attack has nothing to hit.
What it is
When someone criticizes you, you calmly agree with whatever part might be true, without accepting blame or getting defensive. It’s called “fogging,” another tool from assertiveness training. Criticism needs resistance to work. Fog gives it none.
Spot it
Someone keeps calmly agreeing with your criticizm, but nothing ever changes.
Counter it
Move from criticizm to a request. “I’m glad you see it. Can you text me if you’re running more than ten minutes late?” Fog can’t hide from a clear ask.
